Alabama in the news – and for once, its positive… and tech… go figure.

Thought that this was kinda cool. Popped into Digg for ‘one last fix’ before I call it a night and what do I see as the 3rd story link on Digg’s main page (aka most popular stories) but good ol’ Alabama. Yup, thats correct – Geneva, Alabama on the front page of one of (likely the most if we are talking mainstream) the most popular tech social bookmark sites on the Internet.

Apparently a librarian in Geneva, Alabama reads Digg and discovered Ubuntu Linux though the site. Since Microsoft stopped supporting Win98, the librarian decided to swap all the library computers over to Ubuntu (so happens it is the Linux flavor I am currently running) because its cost effectiveness – a.k.a. ITS FREE!

Just thought it was neat to see Alabama in the popular media for something positive for once!

Unfortunately the Geneva Library site is down due to the mass amount of traffic generated by front page exposure on Digg (usually hundreds of thousands of hits). You can check out the story at a local Dothan news station here.
